Formula Student Electric – municHMotorsport

Formula Student Electric (FSE) is an engineering competition, for which students build a single seat formula race car in order to compete against teams from all over the world. It is not just about who has the fastest car, but rather about the car with the best overall package of construction, performance, financing and sales planning. For that, the car is judged in a number of different events.

The Project

In the season 2011/2012 I was involved in the Formula Student Electric team municHMotorsport from the University of Applied Sciences Munich. In particular, I was responsible for the development of the energy storage, as well as its integration into the car.

The Result

You can see the result in the picture below. The energy storage has the following characteristics:

  • Cells: LiMnO2
  • Energy: 6.85 kWh
  • Number of Cells: 880
  • Configuration: 40 seriell-connected cells with 22 of them in parallel
  • Energy storage housing:  aramid fiber material
  • Also included in the package: BMS, AIRs, relay-control, IMD, TSAL control, fuses, wattmeter, HVD, Maintenance Plug and energy meter
